of Judo


Established in Tampa since 1963, the Florida School of Judo is a martial arts school that is equipped with the finest facilities for weights, excercise, self-defense, massage, and Judo. The school is dedicated to the teaching of mutual welfare and benefit under the capable direction of Edwin Maley, President. Mr. Maley has been serving the Tampa area since 1959 and is a nationally and internationally recognized Hachidan, 8th degree red and white belt. His degree was attained through competition, coaching, and sincere devotion in and for the sport of Kodokan Judo. Under his guidance, one will be enriched with the true values of the martial arts, less the unnecessary theatricality. The teachings are a blend of the martial arts, explaining their beginnings many centuries ago, and their relation and application towards today's way of life. Classes are geared to the various physical and emotional needs of individuals using up-to-date latest approved techniques in a beneficial environment.

Mr. Maley is the recipient of numerous laurels from national and international competition, including many coaching and sportsmanship awards. Among his many high caliber qualifications are the following: Class "A" teaching certificate; 7 years undefeated Florida overall state champion; Black Belt Hall of Fame; World Hall of Fame; GI Hall of Fame; National East Coast Air Force Champ; overall New England and East Coast champion; overall Eigth Air Force champion, remaining undefeated. He is also a 4th degree black belt in Karate and an O-Sensei in Jiu-Jitsu as well as an experienced and licensed physical massage therapist. In addition, Mr. Maley is a health, excercise, physical fitness and nutritional advisor. His common sense approach in his fields of counselling and teaching is tailored to fit each individual's needs.

One of America's pioneer Judo and self-defense instructors, with over 47 years teaching experience as an Air Force sergeant and civilian (37 of these in Tampa) Sensei Maley's other achievements include diplomas and certificates in Swedish massage, honorary Doctor of Laws, combative measures and self-defense, and others. His former and present students have made great strides in their endeavors, aided by these proper moral and physical teachings.
